Sediment filter

Primary protection for the water system

  • Removes sand, rust, iron sediment and other mechanical particles from the water
  • Protects pipework, pump systems, heat exchangers and production equipment from blockages
  • Extends the life of water treatment equipment, membranes and other infrastructure

Every business needs clean water of stable quality

A sediment filter is the first line of defense for industrial and large water systems, removing sand, rust particles, iron sediment and other mechanical sediment from the water that can cause blockages and costly equipment failures.

An effective sediment filter lays the foundation for all subsequent water treatment, ensuring process reliability and a high level of purity.

A correctly selected filter ensures stable water quality, reduces maintenance and downtime costs, and extends the service life of pipework, pumps and process equipment.

A sediment filter should be installed at the inlet of every water consumer’s line. It is the first protection against mechanical particles in the water entering the system. When choosing a filter, you need to know the maximum flow rate of the water passing through the filter and the quality of the water to be treated.

Grains of sand, rust particles and iron filings that get into the water from old pipework or even from a drilled well can damage the water system, household appliances and pipework.

A correctly selected sediment filter extends the life of pipework and equipment, helps prevent blockages and ensures cleaner and safer water.

How to choose a suitable sediment filter?

When choosing a sediment filter, it is important to consider two main factors:

  • Water flow rate – the maximum flow rate of the water passing through the filter
  • Water quality – which particles need to be removed from the water

For small and medium flow rates, simpler and more affordable solutions such as IRRI or BIG BLUE filters work well.

For high flow rates, the best choice is a durable ODIS filter or a bag filter, which withstand heavier loads and deliver a stable result.

IRRI filter: for small and medium consumers

The filter housing is made of durable plastic. The filter’s screen element consists of a stainless steel screen surrounded by a mesh-like plastic support grid. The screen opening size of the filter element can be chosen: 100, 200, 300 or 500 microns. (100 microns = 0.1 mm)

IRRI sediment filters are available with 3/4”, 1”, 1-½” and 2” male thread connections and are equipped with a ½” male thread connection to the drain. The filter can be cleaned manually. By opening the drain valve, the surface of the filter element is briefly flushed with mains water pressure.

ODIS filter: for large and medium consumers

The filter housing is made of strong, durable metal. The filter element consists of two parts: a filtering stainless steel screen and a plastic support screen.

ODIS 2000 filters are available with 1”, 1-½”, 2”, 3”, 4”, 6” and 8” male thread connections (flange connections on order). The set includes a ½” drain valve. Cleaning is done manually. When the drain valve is opened, the surface of the filter element is briefly flushed into the drain.

ODIS 8000 filters are available with 1-½”, 2”, 3”, 4” and 6” connections. The set includes a hydraulically opened diaphragm-type drain valve and a programmable backwash controller powered by battery or mains. Cleaning is automatic. The controller opens the drain valve and the surface of the filter element is flushed into the drain with mains water pressure.

PULIFIL and PERMASTER filters

The filter element of the brass-bodied sediment filters is a stainless steel screen with an opening size of 89 microns for the Pulifil and 100, 200 and 300 microns for the Permaster.

The special feature of these filters is that the screen of the filter element is self-cleaning, so there is no need to replace the filter screen continuously.

Backwashing is done with a rotating handle at the top of the filter; turning it rotates the filter element against brushes inside the housing. Turning the handle clockwise activates the discharge valve at every click, through which the rinse water is directed to the drain together with the mechanical particles.

BIG BLUE filter with replaceable filter element

Sediment filters with a replaceable filter element are widely used – easy and convenient to install. The filter can be installed in the system singly or in multiples and does not need a connection to the drain.

The filters are suitable for use in:

  • apartments
  • private houses
  • apartment buildings
  • offices
  • production facilities
  • as a pre-treatment filter for water

Filter element according to the water analysis and the desired end result:

  • string-wound filter element
  • pressed filter element
  • pleated filter element
  • activated carbon filter element
  • water softening filter element
  • iron removal filter element

Bag filter

  • A bag filter is suitable for removing sediment, sand, rust and other mechanical particles from water
  • Used in boiler houses for filtering return heating water, in industry for filtering circulating cooling water, and elsewhere
  • The bag filter housing can be made of either plastic or stainless steel
  • The replaceable filter bag is made of polypropylene
