An unpleasant “rotten egg smell” in drinking water or process water indicates the presence of gaseous hydrogen sulfide (H₂S). Miridon offers odor removal solutions for industrial and large customers, selected according to the water analysis results, consumption volume and H₂S concentration. Most hydrogen sulfide removal methods are based on oxidizing gaseous hydrogen sulfide into solid sulfur compounds, which can be filtered out of the water with filter units.
Hydrogen sulfide removal methods
- Non-pressurized aeration – An effective solution for water with a lower H₂S content (< 2 mg/l). Suitable above all for smaller consumption units or auxiliary lines where the side effects of odor need to be reduced.
- Chemical oxidation – For a high H₂S content and high consumption, dosing of sodium hypochlorite or other oxidizing agents is used. This technology is suitable for boiler houses, industries and water utilities that need to treat large quantities of water.
- Greensand-type iron removal filters – Suitable for smaller systems where the H₂S concentration is low and the water pH is above 6.8. Often used as a supplementary solution or at smaller points of consumption.
