Unit description
The chemical-free iron removal unit is designed to remove dissolved iron (Fe2+) and precipitated iron (Fe3+). The unit consists of a vessel filled with filter media, an air intake valve, an air release valve and a fully automatic controller that manages the filter’s operation. The filter medium is Birm, made specifically for water treatment.
Operating principle
The iron removal process involves oxidation of the dissolved iron with atmospheric oxygen, precipitation and filtration of the precipitate into the filter media. The filter media together with air speeds up the oxidation of the iron dissolved in the water. The iron precipitate remains in the filter media and is flushed into the drain during its backwashing. No chemicals are needed to backwash the unit’s filter media. The unit works fully automatically, starting backwashing on a time basis. Under the standard program, the unit backwashes every three days. The installation site needs an electrical outlet and a drain connection.
